Art Giraffe- The Persistence of Memory

If there is one artist that people identify as Surrealist, it is Salvador Dali. And if there is one painting that people identify as Dali, it is The Persistence of Memory. The iconic melting clocks have been burned into our minds for the past eighty years, and speculation over the meaning of the elements has been a constant topic for discussion for art theorists and high school students alike. If you’re interested, here are some notes.

While I’m not going to discuss the hidden meanings of the painting here, I will pose a question to you. Is a painting of a sleeping giraffe in a dream landscape more or less surreal than a pink blob creature in a dream landscape?

And with that little notion sparking in your noggin, I thank you for visiting Sunday ink! Stay tuned for more Art Giraffe adventures- and as always comments and questions are welcome below.

A fine one! As always (I might add). The minute I saw it it made me laugh (unlike Dalis painting), which is not a bad sign (or is it?).

As for your question (and keep in mind that I’m not exactly an expert when it comes to art, I can only say “I like this one” or “I don’t get it” or something like that): I’d say it’s as surreal as. Right? Right.
